# Mystiskt blått ljus i Tasmania Bay

Det är vackert, det blå ljuset som sköljer fram i vågorna i Tasmanska bukten. Men tyvärr innebär det problem.

Det som gör vattnet självlysande är en alg, _Noctiluca scintillans._ Den är bioluminiscent och avger ljus när den bli störd.

Algen är inte direkt giftig för människor, men den trivs i vatten med låg syrehalt och innebär problem för ekosystemet.

""We contend that _N. scintillans_ blooms could disrupt the traditional diatom-sustained food chain to the detriment of regional fisheries and long-term health of an ecosystem supporting a coastal population of nearly 120 million people," the researchers wrote in the 2014 study."
